Assassin’s Creed Mirage may be announced soon: Here’s what we know so far
Ubisoft’s latest installment in the Assassin’s Creed series is officially named Mirage, as confirmed by the gaming studio. Substantial leaks have surfaced about the upcoming game, suggesting significant departures from its predecessors, namely Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Origins, and Valhalla. Initial information, shared by Twitter user Rebs Gaming, hinted at Mirage shedding RPG elements, aligning it more with the style of Unity and earlier titles.
According to the same source, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set in the city of Baghdad, unfolding events between 870 BC and 860 BC. Contrary to previous speculations about a multi-city map, the latest leak indicates that Baghdad will stand as the sole city in the game, segmented into various zones, each featuring its unique boss encounters.
The narrative of Assassin’s Creed Mirage is rumored to revolve around Basim, a character unfamiliar to those who haven’t played Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Players will delve into Basim’s earlier life as a thief in the medieval city. Embracing a return to the series’ roots, Mirage will emphasize stealth, reintroducing mechanics such as hiding places on rooftops, knife throwing, eagle vision, and the drone bird.
The removal of RPG elements suggests a more linear story, eliminating dialogue options and gender choices. The level system might also be omitted. Drawing inspiration from Assassin’s Unity, Ubisoft is anticipated to populate the streets with numerous NPCs and introduce new parkour interactions, such as the incorporation of lanterns and poles to navigate corners and reach distant buildings.
Leaked details hint at slow-motion animations for certain assassinations, including aerial assassinations. Allegedly, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will delve into ‘visions of Loki,’ explaining how he manifested into Basim’s body and gained control. The game is anticipated to release in the Spring of 2023, with expectations for Ubisoft to unveil more information during the company’s Forward September event on September 10.
